Brief Profile

Dr H. K. Paliwal is Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department of Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow, which was established by Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1984 as a society governed institute.

Professor Paliwal, obtained his B. Tech. and M. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (IT-BHU). He did his Ph.D. in Thermal Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Professor Paliwal started his career in academics in 1988 and became professor in Mechanical Engineering at Institute of Engineering and Technology. His areas of interest include Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Alternative Refrigerants, Heat and Mass Transfer, Two Phase flow, Unconventional Energy, Solar Energy, Microfluidics & Nanofluidics, Preservation & Storage of Agricultural and Horticultural produce.

Through his academic and administrative career of more than 35 years, Professor Paliwal has been very particular in quality of classroom delivery of academic program and overall development of the students with special emphasis on fostering discipline, values and analytical abilities among them.

Professor Paliwal has a tendency of being very involved with the assignments that he accepts. In various important academic cum administrative assignments that has come his way, he leaves no stone unturned to do justice with the responsibility and make a difference. He believes in the team work and gives due weightage to the opinion of Faculty colleagues, staff members and students. As a result, he has always enjoyed the trust and support of all the stake holders, for all the assignments. Some of the important positions in which he has worked include Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Dean, Post Graduate Studies and Research at AKTU, Lucknow, Dean, Student Welfare, Dean Academics and Director at IET Lucknow. During his role as Dean, Student Welfare, there has been substantial increase in amount received (nearly doubled with same number of registered students) from Government of UP against fee reimbursement and postmatric scholarship of the students of IET. As Dean Academics, he has been instrumental in implementing the Academic Autonomy granted by UGC to IET Lucknow. As Dean, Post Graduate Studies and Research at AKTU, apart from streamlining the functioning of the Research Degree Committees, Prof Paliwal introduced the concept of Research Centers at AKTU, schemes of scholarships for Ph.D. students (Teaching cum Research Fellowship) and scheme of granting projects to faculty members of colleges/ institutions of AKTU.

Professor Paliwal has also worked as Head, Mechanical Engineering, Chief Proctor, Chairman, ISAAC at IET Lucknow responsible for extracurricular activities of students. Convener of Board of Studies of Mechanical Engineering at AKTU responsible for drafting the Structure and Syllabus of Mechanical Engineering and related academic programs for AKTU.

During his tenure as Director IET Lucknow, the institute performed exceedingly well with the support and guidance of the Hon. Vice Chancellor, AKTU. To enlist some of the important infrastructural development that has taken place at IET is; completion of a huge auditorium furnished with all state of art facilities, a dispensary at the campus, construction of a new Girls Hostel, complete rejuvenation of institute buildings including residences. Many of the other important work that are initiated include a big stadium for Cricket and Football, a multipurpose hall with standard facilities for basketball, badminton, table tennis, squash, billiards and other indoor games like carom chess etc. and altogether a new buildings for Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering departments.

On the other side, Professor Paliwal as Director has been instrumental in long pending recruitment of Faculty Members, Registrar, Dy. Registrar, System Manager, Assistant System Analyst that has heavily enriched the human resources of the IET Lucknow. He has also made significant improvement in the academic processes and culture of the Institute. Organization of FDPs, Workshops, Seminars and International Conferences etc were a regular phenomenon in the Institute. The performance of the institute in TEQIP –III improved a lot during his tenure as Director. The improvement in academic and administrative processes and culture of the institute is also evident from the fact that IET Lucknow has got NBA accreditation for three years in Five Engineering Programs (all the five programs for which the institute applied for accreditation) under Tier-I category.
