The Electronics Engineering Department was established in year 1984 and is one of the most dynamic departments of Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow. The Department started with under graduate programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering later added Post Graduate programmes with specialization in Microelectronics. Ever since its inception, the department has been the hub of academic excellence through some great teachers who have laid a sound foundation as well as the cream of students, who have spread their wings all over the globe. The alumni of the department are not only excelling in India but also in the Silicon Valley and other hubs of Electronics Technology.
The Department of Electronics Engineering under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Subodh Wairya, Head of the Department, and the consistent efforts of its highly qualified and esteemed faculty members, is a proof to the aforesaid lines.
In tune with the latest developments and keeping pace with the rapidly evolving technology, specialized laboratories have been established with a view to strengthen research and development. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipments and instruments for experimentation in different subjects, these assist students in exhaustive study and help them in learning various concepts through practical experience.
The department has acquired expertise in the area of VLSI Design, Signal Processing, Wireless Communication and Networks, Optical Communication and Networks, Antenna and RF System Design, Image, Speech and Video processing, Testing and Verification of VLSI Design, Reconfigurable Processor Design and Embedded System Design. State-of-the-art laboratories have been set up in department for both Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate Programmes to bring practical knowledge at par with the global standard level and are well equipped with world class computational facilities and resources both in terms of hardware and software. The department has a blend of experienced and well qualified faculty members having obtained Masters and Ph.D. degrees from premier institutes and have distinction of working with established national and international research and industrial organizations.
Faculty members are actively involved in research activities and have many research publications in international & national journals and international & national conferences to their credit. Faculty members in the department have undertaken many funded research projects, sponsored by the Government and renowned R & D organizations. The department also offers consultancy and testing services to the industries and R&D organizations in the area of the expertise and have organized many customized training programmes for industrial professionals, officers of Indian Navy, and academic staff of technical institutions in the area of Digital Communication, Signal Processing, Embedded System Design, Antenna System Design, Multimedia Signal Processing and VLSI Design.
Twice the faculty in the department have received best faculty awards from Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and an award for significant contribution in the field of RF & Antenna from The Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). Students are encouraged to take part in various international and national project competitions like ROBOCON, Freescale Cup, Texas Instrument Contest, iCreate, SAE BAJA and have won many awards.
The field of electronics is the fastest growing and the most rapidly changing area of technology in the current times. Electronics has become the all-pervasive technology, which finds application in all spheres of engineering including computers, communication, defense, mechatronics, instrumentation, automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, computer networks, satellites, education etc. The use of electronics has brought about a drastic change in the way human civilization exists today.
The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been set up to impart training of the highest standards to the students, in the field of electronics, thus preparing them to meet the exacting demands of the highly competitive global industrial market.
The objectives of the B.Tech. Programme are:
To progressively impart training starting from the fundamentals of electronics and covering the entire spectrum of current technologies being used in the field of communication, digital design, chip design and industry in general.
To instill in the students a sense of curiosity about the field of electronics and make them confident to explore and innovate.
To ensure that the students develop strong work ethics, organizational skills, team work and understand the importance of being a thorough professional.
The emphasis of the program is on practical, hands-on learning. Significant part of the curriculum is dedicated to ensuring that the students get to work with latest equipment and explore the implementation of the knowledge learnt through the class-work. Besides regular class-work, skills of the students are honed by their participation in group discussions, presentations, group assignments and project work which is mandatory 5th semester onwards. The students face continuous evaluation based on these activities. The students are also required to undergo summer training in an industrial environment to learn industrial standards of project management, teamwork, quality considerations and documentation.
State-of-the-art laboratories, containing the latest equipment have been set up to ensure that the students get moderinised facilities to thoroughly understand and explore the concepts of electronics as learnt in the class-room. Specifically keeping in mind the fact that the Institute is located in a region where day-to-day industrial interaction is not feasible, the latest equipment is provided in the laboratories itself to ensure that the students are kept abreast of the newer technologies being used in the industry. The department has established laboratories in collaboration with Multi-national companies like Xilinx Inc., Texas. The following laboratories have been established to provide the students with the best possible facilities for enhancing the value of the learning process.
